Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Austria have been established on March 25, 1992. Tajikistan’s Embassy in Vienna was opened in 1997. Tajik-Austrian political relationship embraces constructive dialogue that has been set in the course of the meetings of heads of states and ministries of foreign affairs. From April 26 to April 28, 2005 in Dushanbe passed the first meeting of the joint Tajik-Austrian economic commission. For the purpose of deepening of the bilateral economic relations following the results of a meeting of the party signed the protocol. The meeting of representatives of the private sector and the Tajik-Austrian businessmen held on November 14-15, 2005. The wide range of issues, representing mutual interest, including issues of trade and economic cooperation. were discussed.
