Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Austria have been established on March 25, 1992. Tajikistan’s Embassy in Vienna was opened in 1997. Tajik-Austrian political relationship embraces constructive dialogue that has been set in the course of the meetings of heads of states and ministries of foreign affairs. From April 26 to April 28, 2005 in Dushanbe passed the first meeting of the joint Tajik-Austrian economic commission. For the purpose of deepening of the bilateral economic relations following the results of a meeting of the party signed the protocol. The meeting of representatives of the private sector and the Tajik-Austrian businessmen held on November 14-15, 2005. The wide range of issues, representing mutual interest, including issues of trade and economic cooperation. were discussed. Visit of the Austrian scientists to Tajikistan in October, 2005 gave a new impulse to cultural ties of two countries. First round of bilateral political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries were held in February 21 – 23, 2007 in Dushanbe and attended by the delegation of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria led by Ambassador Hanns Porias. Last Tajik-Austrian political consultations which took place on 7 May 2009 in Dushanbe showed coincidence of views and approaches regarding threats and challenges as well as means of political solution of regional conflicts including in Afghanistan. Aiming to give an impulse to extension of bilateral relations in future, both sides have reached an agreement to commence negotiations on H.E. the President Emomali Rahmon official visit to Austria in 2011. The third meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation took place in december 2010. On April 1st 2011 in the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria the political consultations between delegations of Tajikistan and Austria were held. During the consultations the current state of bilateral relations, expansion of the legal basis, cooperation between the EU and Tajikistan, regional issues, the situation in Afghanistan and other issues of mutual interest were discussed. On June 7, 2011 the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon with official visit arrived to Austrian Republic. During the visit Emomali Rahmon held meeting with the President of the Austrian Republik Khaints Fisher. The presidents discussed issue on bilateral relations between two countries. At the end of the meeting, the sides with participation of both Presidents signed Joint communiqué between Republic of Tajikistan and Austrian Republic on issue of further strengthening bilateral relations, Agreement on avoidance of double taxation, as well as Agreement between national Olympic Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan and Olympic Committee of the Austrian Republic. On April 2-3, 2012 in Hamrokhon Zarifi Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan received Ambassador of Austria Ursula Faringer. Interlocutors exchanged opinions on a present condition and further prospects of bilateral cooperation. At the end of this meeting of the party exchanged diplomas about Convention ratification between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Austria about avoidance of the double taxation and evasion prevention from the taxation concerning taxes on the income and the capital, signed on June 7, 2011 in Vienna. Also the Protocol on data exchange by instruments of ratification was signed. On October 8, 2012 in Dushanbe the next consultations were held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and Austria. On the consultations the delegation of Tajikistan was headed by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Makhmudzhon Sobirov. The Austrian party was presented by the Ambassador, the Head of Department of Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans, South Caucasus and Central Asia of the Federal Ministry of the European international affairs of Austria by the Mrs. Haydemari Gyurer. During consultations of the party discussed the wide range of issues, concerning bilateral and multilateral relations, and also a issues of preparation for visit of the President of the Republic of Austria Heinz Fischer to the Republic of Tajikistan, planned for March, 2013. An aggregate volume of external trade of Tajikistan in the period of the 2012 concluded 5 180,8 million USD. Bilateral trade relations between two countries are rapidly growing. Tajikistan’s major export commodities to Austria are cotton and aluminum, while our import from Austria includes medicines, medical equipment, sugar, honey, forage processing aggregates and other products. | |
