Tajikistan assumes Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation On 8 May 2019 the Republic of Tajikistan has officially started its Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC). The first Plenary Meeting of the FSC under the Tajik Chairmanship held in the Hofburg Palace, Vienna, during which the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan H.E. Zohir Saidzoda addressed the opening session. In his speech, the Deputy Foreign Minister presented to the OSCE participating States the Program of Tajik Chairmanship which is focused both to the traditional issues covered by the FSC, such as management of the small arms and light weapons (SALW) and stockpiles of conventional ammunition (SCA), implementation of the UN Security Council Resolutions 1540 and 1325, and to the issues of politico-military aspects of regional security in Central Asia. Along with this a special attention in the Program is paid to the need of strengthening cooperation between the OSCE and such regional organizations involved in Central Asia, as the SCO, the CSTO, the CICA, as well as the EU. Mr. Zohir Saidzoda has confirmed that Tajikistan intends to perform its duties with balanced approach and guided by the established principles of equality and mutual respect. He has noted that the main task of the Tajik Chairmanship is continuation of the ongoing work in further improving the control mechanisms in the politico-military field. The country’s Program was widely welcomed by the OSCE participating States. The permanent delegations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Canada, the Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Turkey, the USA, Uzbekistan and the European Union to the OSCE made statements in support of the Tajik FSC Chairmanship. Following the Plenary Meeting, the Deputy Foreign Minister has met the OSCE Secretary General H.E. Mr. Thomas Greminger who congratulated Tajikistan with the beginning of its FSC Chairmanship and expressed the support of the Secretariat during this period.
