In February 11, 2013 in Paris the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Hamrokhon Zarifi has been held with the UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova. During the talk the sides exchanged views regarding the state and further prospects of fruitful development of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and UNESCO.The Minister of Foreign Affairs Hamrokhon Zarifi handed to the UNESCO Director-General the personal message of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, in which the Government of Tajikistan invites UNESCO to be the chief coordinator of organization of the 3rd Pamir highland international geophysical expedition for 2013-2018. The foreseen expedition will present a unique opportunity for enhancement of glaciological and climatologic sciences, as well as evaluation of water resources of Central Asia.It should be reminded that two international expeditions to Pamir were conducted in 1928-1933 and 1958-1962.The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan particularly noted the contribution of Ms. Bokova to promotion of initiatives of Tajikistan in the water and cultural spheres. In this regard, H.Zarifi proposed to his interlocutor to fully support the proposals of the republic on introduction of ancient historical monuments of Tajikistan into the UNESCO World Heritage List, in particular ancient town of Panjakent.In his turn, the UNESCO Director-General positively evaluated international activity and initiatives of the country in the water sphere, as well as especially noted the importance of the forthcoming International High-level Conference on Water Cooperation. The Tajik Foreign Minister on behalf of the leadership of the Republic of Tajikistan once again invited Ms. Bokova to take active part in the upcoming International Conference in August 2013, as well as proposed to pay an official visit to Tajikistan.
