On March 14, 2019 the Ministerial Segment of the 62nd session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) has started in Vienna to review the implementation of the commitments made over the past decade to jointly address and counter the world drug problem, in particular in the light of the 2019 target date set in the 2009 Political Declaration and Plan of Action, and to enhance the efforts beyond 2019.

The Delegation of Tajikistan headed by Mr. Sherkhon Salimzoda, the Director of the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, has participated in the Ministerial Segment of the session. The head of the Tajik Delegation has made a statement at the session and elaborated on the efforts of the Government of Tajikistan in preventing and combating the illicit drug trafficking, including the fight against transnational organized criminal groups.

On the side-lines of the session, Mr. Sherkhon Salimzoda has met with the high-level representatives of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and participated in the High-Level Side Event entitled “United Nations and Shanghai Cooperation Organization against narcotic drugs: cooperation for strengthening international drug control” which has focused on the ways and measures to strengthen international drug control cooperation and implementation of the international commitments in line with the SCO Members-States Anti-Drug Strategy 2018-2023.

The session has adopted the Ministerial Declaration entitled “Strengthening our actions at the national, regional and international levels to accelerate the implementation of our joint commitments to address and counter the world drug problem”.  The Declaration tasks the CND to conduct in 2024 a mid-term and in 2029 a comprehensive review of the joint progress in implementing all international drug policy commitments.
