On 9th April 2013 the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has arrived to Brussels for an official visit. During this trip the President of Tajikistan is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hamrokhon Zarifi, State Advisor of President for Foreign Policy Erkin Rahmatulloev, Minister of Energy and Industry Gul Sherali, Chairman of State Committee on Investments and State Property Management Davlatali Saidov, Chairman of Commission for Ecology of Majlisi namoyandagon Majlisi Oli Mahmadsharif Haqdodov and other officials. Upon arrival to Brussels President of Tajikistan has met High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs & Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton. During this meeting issues of relations between Tajikistan and European Union were discussed. Signing of grant and credit financial agreements between Tajikistan and European Union were mentioned as well as financial contract on energy sector with European Investment bank. Particular attention were paid to the preparation of the new EU Strategy for Central Asia for 2014-2020. According to President Emomali Rahmon key issues of mutually beneficial cooperation of European Union in the region should be security after withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan, strengthening fight against terrorism, extremism, development of regional cooperation, coordination in the sphere of effective use of hydro and energy resources and preventing global challenges. Taking into account Afghanistan needs, it was mentioned that further support of production economic sectors of Tajikistan, including industry, hydro energy, transport and agriculture is needed. It was noted with confidence that measures taken by Tajikistan for increasing electricity supply to Afghanistan in summer period and construction of railway Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan will find European Union's support. Issues of civil society progress and other topical matters were constructively discussed as well. On the same day President of Tajikistan has received Mr. Dirk Lambrechts, President of the Health Care Association of Belgium. The two reportedly discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and this Association. The meeting resulted in signing of a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between Tajikistan and the Health Care Association of Belgium. | |
