On the second day of the official visit to Brussels, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a number of meetings. At the beginning of the meeting with the NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Head of Tajik state Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction with practical partnership with this organization in the framework of Partnership for Peace Programme and named the implementation of Individual Partnership Cooperation Programme between Tajikistan and NATO as an effective means of strengthening relations between the two sides. Anders Fogh Rasmussen highly appreciated the role of Tajikistan in practical assistance to ISAF in Afghanistan and active facilitation of socio-economic revival of this country and named our country in this process as "a stable and reliable partner of NATO". Anders Fogh Rasmussen also stated that "NATO will widely use today and after 2014 Tajikistan's opportunities in the path to assistance in socio-economic revival of Afghanistan and training of military personnel and Afghan police". The next meeting of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon was held with the President of the European Parliament Martin Schultz. The issues of cooperation of Tajikistan and the European Union, particularly the process of strengthening inter-parliamentary relations have been discussed at the meeting. It was expressed satisfaction over the regularity of top-level relations between Tajikistan and central structures of the European Union, including its Parliament, fruitful activities of Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, and effective implementation of seven-year Strategy of Cooperation of the EU with Central Asia. A constructive talk also took place regarding the assistance in the development of regional cooperation in Central Asia, boosting institutes of civil society and other issues of interest. The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Vice President of the European Investment Bank Wilhelm Molterer. The issues of further expansion of bilateral cooperation have been considered at the meeting. In the framework of the meeting a new cooperation document was signed between Tajikistan and the EIB - Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of Cooperation. The document was signed on behalf of Tajikistan by the Chairman of State Committee on Investments and State Property Management Davlatali Saidov and on behalf of the Bank by the Vice President of the EIB Wilhelm Molterer. A central event in today's programme of the visit of the Head of Tajik State Emomali Rahmon to Brussels was a meeting with the President of the EU Council Herman Van Rompuy. During the meeting, the President of Tajikistan expressed thanks to the European Union and its relevant structures for support of Tajikistan in the process of accession to the WTO. The sides expressed belief that the participation in the implementation of infrastructure projects aimed at the socio-economic development of Afghanistan will also strengthen relationships between Tajikistan and the EU. A constructive talk was also held on continuation of comprehensive reforms in Tajikistan, democratization of the society, improvement of investment climate and on transparent and free conducting of the next elections of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan. It was expressed confidence that the presidential elections will indeed reflect the enhancement of democracy and civil society in Tajikistan. During the meeting of the Head of Tajik state Emomali Rahmon with the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso also future relations of Tajikistan with European Union were named as having hopeful prospects. It was expressed satisfaction with fruitful implementation of programmes of EU, such as BOMCA and CADAP, Tempus and Erasmus Mundus and macrofinance and technical support of Tajikistan. It was expressed confidence that today’s meeting with top leadership of central structures of the EU will give a great impetus to the expansion of beneficial relations between the two sides, including in the areas of policy and security, economy and trade, investments, social spheres, science and technology and development of civil society. The President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso was invited to pay an official visit to Tajikistan for continuation of constructive dialogue of both sides. | |
