Continuation of official visit of H.E. Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan to Brussels

In the morning on 11 April in Brussels President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs.

During the constructive talk an exchange of views was held on the ways to support Tajikistan in the implementation of projects for enhancement of energy, transport and communication infrastructure, agriculture, mining and food industry, as well as education, healthcare, social protection.

Andris Piebalgs stressed the willingness and interest of the European Commission in support of Tajikistan due to its strategic position and key role in Central Asia, as well as stated that he will take efforts for implementation of agreements reached during the numerous top-level meetings between Tajikistan and the European Union on these days.

 The issues of cooperation in energy area were substantially discussed with Energy Charter Secretary General Urban Rusnak and at the Forum "New opportunities of investment in energy sphere of Tajikistan”.

Head of Tajik State Emomali Rahmon during a tete-a-tete meeting with Urban Rusnak expressed confidence that this meeting as well as organized forum of Energy Charter will give a serious impetus to wide attraction of investments and unprecedented development of this vital area.

 The current issues on energy area were discussed at the meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Senior Vice President of Total Company Michael Borrel.

During the meeting it was noted, that Total intends to engage in geological-research works and extraction and processing of oil and gas in the southern area of Tajikistan. Total will conduct  its activity in cooperation with China National Petroleum Company (CNPC) and Tetis Petroleum.

Three partners intend to invest 80 million USD for continuation of research and beginning of drilling works.

 On 12 of April President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foregin Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium Didier Reynders.

The issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and Belgium have been reviewed at the meeting.

The Head of Tajik State Emomali Rahmon highly evaluated the role of Belgium in the implementation of the Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the European Union and the EU Strategy for Central Asia and expressed thanks for its regular support of Tajikistan's development.

 President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a fruitful meeting with the President of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament of Belgium Andre Flahaut.

"We consider the kind and friendly political relations, including inter-parliamentary ties as an important factor of beneficial bilateral relations", - stated Head of State Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the talks.

A constructive talk was also held on different aspects of relatins between the two countries.
During the exchange of views both sides expressed their deep interest in the enhancement of mutually beneficial cooperation.

 Forum "New energy investment opportunities of Tajikistan – the way forward” in Brussels

 The Forum "New energy investment opportunities of Tajikistan – the way forward”, which was conducted under the chairmanship of the member of the European Parliament Struan Stevenson, was attended by President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, heads of relevant ministries and departments of Tajikistan, Energy Charter Secretary General Urban Rusnak, Senior Vice President of Total company Michael Borrel, President of Tetis Petroleum Company David Robson, and leaders and high-ranking representatives of many authoritative European companies.

At the beginning, President Emomali Rahmon briefed the participants on the abundant opportunities for investment in the economy of Tajikistan and favorable political and legal climate created for businessmen and investors.

Detailed information was offered on abundant opportunities of investment in different sectors of Tajik economy, like energy, including areas of hydro power, oil and gas, industry, extraction and processing of minerals, production, processing and export of agricultural products, aluminum and others.
