Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Slovak Republic.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Slovak Republic were established on February 4, 1993. Since 15th May, 2007 Embassy of the Slovak Republic was accredited to the Republic of Tajikistan (with residence in Tashkent).

On November 26, 2014 the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Slovak Republic (with residence in Vienna) presented his letter of Credence to the President of Slovakia and Embassy of Tajikistan was accredited in this country.

Legal base of bilateral relations:

  • Agreement between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Slovak Republic on promotion and mutual protection of investments (February 14, 1994, Bratislava);
  • Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and he Government of the Slovak Republic on trade and economic relations and cooperation in the field of science and technology (February 14, 1994, Bratislava);
  • Protocol on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic (August 30, 2007, Dushanbe);
  • Memorandum of Understading between the Ministry of Economic development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan and Ministry and Economy of the Slovak Republic on economic cooperation (September 15, 2008, Bratislava).

Economic cooperation

Foreign trade turnover with Slovakia in 2006 amounted to 4.7 million US dollars, in 2007 - 3.4 million US dollars. In 2008 - 4.7 million US dollars, in 2009, 1.1 million US dollars, in 2012 - only 50.7 (fifty thousand and seven hundred) US dollars.

Cooperation in the field of education

Each year the Government of Slovak Republic provides scholarships for Tajik citizens to study in graduate programs in various fields. In 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 academic years Slovak side provided two scholarships to study at the master's degree under this program and for the 2012-2013 academic years only one has been allocated for study in Bratislava.
