Bilateral Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Hungary

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Hungary were established in July 2, 1992.

Since January 2004 Embassy of Tajikistan to Hungary (with residence in Vienna) has been accredited.

Embassy of Hungary to Tajikistan (with residence in Astana) has been also accredited.

Political Relations, Visits

In February 2004, the First Deputy Minister, Secretary of State for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary A. Barsony visited Tajikistan. During this visit he met with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and other officials.

During the meetings issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and Hungary on the eve of Hungary's accession to the European Union, implementation of already signed agreements and consideration of new drafts were discussed.

On September 18, 2008 in Paris at the EU - Central Asia Forum on security issues, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan H.Zarifi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary K. Ghents. During the meeting issues related to strengthening and expanding the legal framework of cooperation between the two countries, as well as in the framework of Central Asia - European Union format were discussed.

On January 17, 2011 the first political consultations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Hungary were conducted in Dushanbe;

On 10 June 2011, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has paid an official visit to Hungary. During this visit President Emomali Rahmon met with the Hungarian President Poll Schmitt and other officials.

On December 9, 2014, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Hungary to the Republic of Tajikistan (with the residence in Astana) Imre Laszlocki.

On February 4, 2015 in Budapest Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan (with residence in Vienna) Ismatullo Nasredinov presented his Letters of Credence to the President of Hungary Janos Ader.

On November 27, 2016 the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon has left for Hungary in order to take part in the Budapest Water Summit – 2016.

On 28 November 2016 in Budapest, Hungary in the framework of participation in the Budapest Water Summit political consultations between foreign ministries of Tajikistan and Hungary were held. Delegations were harded by H.E. Mr. Sirojiddin Aslov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and H.E. Mr. Peter Sijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary.

On 28 November 2016 in Budapest, Hungary on the sidelines of the Budapest Water Summit by the initiative of Tajikistan and in cooperation with the International Meteorological Organization a Side Event entitled “Strengthening efforts in addressing water-related disaster risk reduction” were conducted.

On November 29, in Budapest, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon met with the President of Hungary Janos Ader in the sidelines of the Budapest Water Summit 2016.

On February 2, 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Andras Baranyi.

On 3-6 June 2017 visit of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Andras Baranyi (with residence in Astana) to the Sughd region for participation in the "Visegrad 4" Film Festival.

On June 28, 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirodjidin Aslov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto, who arrived in Dushanbe on an working visit. During this visit the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and Hungary also exchanged congratulatory messages on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (2 July 2017). On June 28, 2017, in the Palace of the Nation, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan His Excellency Emomali Rahmon received the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto.

On July 01, 2017 the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan His Excellency Emomali Rahmon and the Hungarian President Janos Ader exchanged congratulatory letters on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (2 July 2017).

  • Protocol between ministries of foreign affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Hungary on political consultations (Budapest, September 1995);
  • Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Republic of Hungary on visa-free travel of persons with diplomatic and service passports (17 December 1999). (Existed in the form of an exchange of notes, has been canceled due to the entry of Hungary to Schengen area on 1 December 2007);
  • Joint Statement between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Hungary on further strengthening of bilateral relations (Budapest, June 10, 2011);
  • Memorandum of Understanding between Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan and Ministry of Rural Development of the Republic of Hungariy on cooperation in the field of Agriculture (Budapest, June 10, 2011);
  • Agreement between Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan and Ministry of National Resources of the Republic of Hungary on Cooperation in the field of healthcare for 2011-2015 (Budapest, June 10, 2011);

The volume of foreign trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with Hungary:

For the 9 month of 2013 was 1814,7 thousand US dollars (export – 0,00 thousand US dollars, import-1814,7 thousand US dollars);

For nine month of 2014 the volume of trade between Tajikistan and Hungary amounted to 2194,2 thousand U.S. dollars (exports - 0,00 imports - 2194,2 thousand U.S. dollars).

For 2015 amounted to 2134,3 thousand USD (export – 3,4 thousand USD; import - 2130,9 thousand USD).

For 2016 this indicator reached 4 919,7 thousand USD (export – 0,00; import – 4919,7 thousand USD).
